Quentin Seitz McCarthy, age 29, of Chicago. Beloved son of Brian and Keta McCarthy nee Seitz. Loving brother of Niall (Jillian) McCarthy, Aine McCarthy (boyfriend Luke Johnson), and Emmett McCarthy. Proud uncle of Georgina McCarthy. Loving partner of Melissa Morel. Fond nephew of Suzanne (Rick) Arnold, Amy (Val) Cordry, Donn (Revae) Seitz, Neil (Terry) Seitz, Greg McCarthy, and Stephen McCarthy. Loyal cousin and friend to many.

Quentin McCarthy was a devoted son and compassionate brother. He was generous with his time and was present for his family, his partner and his friends, whom he loved wholeheartedly. As a dedicated companion, he was loyal, fun-loving and passionate. Quentin had a magnetic personality.

Kind and sensitive, Q matured into an intelligent, curious, and brave young man. As a voracious reader and attentive listener, Quentin always loved a good story. His quirky personality lent him to often being the life of the party; dressing in costumes and making people laugh. He had an enthusiasm for great food and a passion for quality beers. He learned gourmet cooking while studying abroad in Rome and working at Timpone’s restaurant in Urbana. As a result, Quentin became a fantastic cook who loved to barbecue steaks and to add cream to his sauces. The Maine woods called him almost as much as his appetite for Maine lobster.

There was much more to Quentin’s talents than his career as a fixed income trader at AlphaBit Trading. He graduated from New Trier High School in 2005, where he was a varsity middle linebacker on the New Trier football team. He graduated from University of Illinois in 2009, where he was an enthusiastic member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Quentin was a skilled athlete at an early age, earning a state hockey championships in 1996 and 1998. As an avid fly-fisherman, he joyfully reeled in trout on the streams of the Wisconsin Driftless Area and the big rivers of Montana. Q was a clever and a playful competitor; he was an active snowboarder and a spunky dancer. He enjoyed running, biking, playing euchre, picking apples, climbing trees and winning capture-the-flag.

Quentin treasured his youth, and lived life to the fullest. He also suffered silently; he hid his emotional pain from many of those who loved him. The handsome smile that arose from Quentin’s complex and thoughtful soul will live forever.
