Henry Tuttle Chandler, 91, of Lake Forest, IL died at his home on February 19, 2016, with his family by his side.

Harry, as he was known, was born on February 14, 1925 in Chicago, IL to the late Kent and Grace (Tuttle) Chandler. He grew up in Lake Forest, attending the Bell School and Gorton School, after which he went on to Groton School, Yale University and later the Harvard Business School’s AMP. After commanding his naval cadet battalion at Yale, he served on a destroyer as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He spent his 34-year professional career with the Quaker Oats Company, first in production management and then in brand and sales management. Harry’s dedicated lifelong community service included work with Boy Scouts of America, The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, Nature Conservancy of Illinois, The Field Museum, Alliance for the Great Lakes, and as an alderman for the City of Lake Forest.

Harry’s greatest joy was to spend time with his family on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, boating on the Great Lakes and in the Pacific Northwest, hunting ducks and upland birds, and on the ski slopes of the Rockies and the Alps.

He will be greatly missed. Harry is survived by his loving wife Clarissa Haffner Chandler; children, Laura Emerson Chandler, Edward Kent (Susan) Chandler, Phoebe (Arthur) Chandler Turner; grandchildren, Grace S. Chandler, Edward M. Chandler, Thomas H. Chandler, Adele O. Watel, Charlotte G. Watel; brother Bruce (Jenny) Chandler, and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Henry Tuttle Chandler, Jr.

Memorial service 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel, 555 N. Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Interment Private.
