Bruce A. Cerling

Bruce A. Cerling of Lake Bluff, IL died March 13, 2017 at age 88. Bruce graduated from the University of Illinois and then he served in the Air Force as an intelligence officer and Second Lieutenant. Moving to Lincoln, IL, he worked a family farm for 3 years. Completely changing his career, Bruce moved to Lake Bluff and joined the Chicago Tribune in classified ads. He worked his way up to Vice-President in charge of the building, purchasing, and security.

He was involved with projects such as Freedom Center, Wrigley Field, and negotiating with various unions. In retirement, Bruce was very involved with various organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Senior Center, Lake Forest Hospital, Catholic Charities Debt Counseling, and St Mary’s Church.

He was very active in the parish from committee work to usher. He will be greatly missed. Survived by his loving daughters Mary Beth (Bill), Anne (Kenton), Carolyn (Michael), and Peggy (Robert); 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Joanne and son, John.

Private family visitation will be held at Wenban Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 18 at Church of St. Mary, 175 E Illinois Rd, Lake Forest.

Private family burial will take place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities, the Church of St Mary’s in Lake Forest, or Heifer International.
