Michelle Farrar Thompson
On December 30, 2016, Michelle Farrar Thompson, age 52, of Winnetka, Illinois, beloved wife of Charles Floyd Thompson Jr. and loving mother of Jacqueline Marie, Charles Floyd III, and Annie Dolores Thompson. Born on September 8, 1964 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the first of four daughters of Michael C. Farrar and the late Jacqueline Keefe Farrar.
Baptized at the University of Notre Dame, she accompanied her parents a year later to New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved with them in 1967 to the Washington, DC area, where she attended public schools in Rockville, Maryland, graduating in 1982 from Woodward High School, where she was a top student and a three-sport athlete. Four years later, she graduated from Boston College, where as in high school and in later life, people were drawn to her because of her effervescent personality, positive attitude, charm, and openness.
In 1986, Michelle volunteered on Connie Morella’s first Congressional campaign, leading to a two-year job in the Wheaton, Maryland field office, which motivated her to attend George Washington Law School, graduating in 1991 and then working at a Rockville law firm.
Michelle met Charlie in 1986 and their loving relationship led to marriage in November, 1994 and a move to Chicago. Michelle later left her work at a law firm to be a full-time mother to her three children, selflessly cherishing each day, each sporting event and each vacation trip with them. She volunteered for any number of their school and sports and church organizations and was on the American Cancer board for ten years, being instrumental in founding and guiding the American Cancer Junior Board, which now has 90 high school girls participating, led by her daughter Jackie, who is co-President. As a parishioner of Saints Faith, Hope & Charity Church, she taught her children to appreciate the goodness and kindness embodied in the endless thoughtful deeds and words that came their way from so many during the past year.
Michelle was predeceased by her mother, Jackie, and by Charlie’s mother, Dolores. She is survived by her husband and children; by her three sisters, Melissa Ronan (Chris), Stacy Farrar, and Susan Antle (Rich); by her father, Mike, and his wife Gloria and her two children Paul Hatcher (Melissa) and Jennifer Mattson (Rob); by Charlie’s two brothers, Chad (Maria) and Chet (Candace); by Charlie’s father, Charlie, and his wife Debbie; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private at a later time in Rockville, Maryland.
