Joan A. Kalter
Mrs. Joan A. Kalter, 93, of Lake Forest, IL, died Sunday, August 14, 2016. She was born April 9, 1923 to William A. and Theresa (Schratt) Hottinger of Glen Ellyn, IL. She married Robert P. Kalter on February 10, 1945. They moved to Lake Forest in 1949.
Joan attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and earned her Master’s in Education from Roosevelt University. Joan taught music in the Lake Forest and Lincolnshire schools and taught private piano for 60 years. She was an avid gardener, crossword puzzler and watercolorist. She was active in the Guild of St Mary.
She is survived by daughters Kristi (Jerry) Coleman of Antioch, IL, and Karen (Andrew) Cook of Sister Bay, WI, her brother William Hottinger of Glen Ellyn IL, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, a violinist, conductor, teacher, composer and founder of the Lake Forest Symphony before his death in 1956; a daughter, Erika; a sister Victoria (Hottinger) Gysendorfer.
A private service for family is planned.
